A look back

Today, Gawker takes a look back at Kokie's, which wasn't just a clever name. Now the only bar to drugs in Williamsburg is ... well, just about every single bar in Williamsburg. Except now it's rich kids doing it instead of poor people and prostitutes. Seriously, Colombia must have a special boat route that goes directly from Bogota to Kent Street.

If you haven't seen the "Behind the Seen" exhibition at the Ad Hoc Art Gallery in Bushw... er, I mean, East Williamsburg, you should get out there ASAP. It showcases street artists like Swoon, Shepard Fairey, Ron English and many more. Just take the L train to my old stop, Morgan. It ends on Sunday, so this is your last chance. Go!

A Theater Comes to the 'Burg

Cassandra_cinema

Interesting new development concerning Williamsburg's future movie theater. First, some background info: The three-screen theater on Metropolitan will show revival films, indie flicks, documentary and international features, which makes it sound like my favorite movie theater in New York, Film Forum in the West Village. An unfinished version of the theater's website also states it will feature "live music and audience participation." Sadly, according to Curbed, the building site has a Stop Work Order posted on it because construction hasn't protected the building next door. Let's hope they can work it out because this sounds like a great addition to the neighborhood.
