No 'Cue at Studio BBQ

Studio_bbq_1

Oh, the confusion!

Last night I ventured to Studio B for the Studio BBQ, only to be told they were out of food. I wasn't the only one disappointed; the long line of people outside soon dispersed, and there was nothing for me to do but go up Franklin Avenue to Brooklyn Label.*

Still curious about the rooftop, I returned to Studio B afterwards for a few drinks. It basically has the feel of the Delancey's rooftop in the Lower East Side. A young, very Williamsburg-looking crowd packed the palm-filled rooftop bar sipping $6 Coronas, whilst soul was spun by the DJ. It was, much like the larger club space downstairs, a bit of a scene; a good place to go if you have a large group o' partiers looking for a good time.

Dancing in the cluurb.

*This was the first time I had been to Brooklyn Label since head chef Cody Utzman left, and the food was pretty good, although it's hard to tell the state of a restaurant from its cobb salad.  I'll have to return for brunch to make a more thorough assessment.

Two-for-Fun

Zachbeer_2

Musician and mustachioed man of science Zach Piazza enjoys not one, but two delicious beers at Matchless

Why didn't I know about two-for-one Tuesdays at Matchless? If I had an assistant I would fire him. Last night I went to a jumping Matchless (557 Manhattan Ave), full of Greenpoint's finest drunkards, a lively brass band of some sort (Editor's note: My memory of the night is slightly hazy), and a two-for-one deal on 32 different beers all night. It felt like what many Williamsburg bars used to feel like: lots of energy, friendly people and nary a popped collar or tube top in sight. I shall return soon with my friends, and we shall dip our mustaches into the frothy beer and laugh heartily knowing that a second serving of ale is soon to come. Huzzah!

Showtime Comes to Greenpoint

MagicHey rich Lakers fans! Someone has finally created your perfect condo. The amenities:

putting green on the roof, "virtual golf" indoors, billiards room, building wifi, indoor pool, interior courtyard with reflecting pond and more.

And which three-time MVP is an investor in the Greenpoint building? That's right, Earvin "Magic" Johnson. It's like Greenpoint is recieving a no-look pass of luxury! [via Curbed]

What's Going on Tonight?

Deathsethope

Those hyperactive kids from the Death Set are ripping things up tonight at the Glasslands (289 Kent Ave, nr. S. 1st St, $7, doors 9pm), where there will be free Sparks from 10pm-11pm.

Also, roller skating is back at Studio B (259 Banker St., Greenpoint) with the Down and Derby party ($7 at the door, $3 skate rental, doors 10pm), which will be as packed as usual so get there waaaaay early.

Tonight at Studio B

Crystal

Finally, the quirky, dystopian dance parties of tomorrow, today. The Toronto-based Crystal Castles play moody dance rock with NES-style beeps and female vocals. Have you ever danced and cried at the same time? You will, my friend, you will.

Tonight, 8pm, Tuesday, March 25 at Studio B, 259 Banker St in Greenpoint. $12 at the door, get there early 'cause tickets won't last.

Kosciuszko Bridge To Be Replaced By Bridge I Can Pronounce

K_bridge

The Historic Preservation Office gave up trying to preserve the decaying bridge, which the DOT will now replace with two less shitty bridges. Usually I'm a fan of preservation, but let's face it, the Kosciuszko Bridge was deteriorating, ugly and needlessly steep. Hopefully this will make getting from Brooklyn to Queens a little easier. Calling All Dart Enthusiasts!

DartboardGreenpointers and Williamsburgers who love darts: Assemble! If you like beer, sticking stuff with little pointy sticks and concentric circles, darts may be the game for you. Our friends over at Greenpointers are trying to get a dart league going with someone who has organized leagues in Bay Ridge and Flatbush. Suck it, competitive skeeball!

Anyone who is interested, or who knows a good bar in Greenpoint or the 'Burg for the league, contact or leave a comment with Greenpointers.
